I couldn’t be happier that it is Spring! I feel as though my soul requires some warmth and a breath of fresh air. The new season has got me thinking, about goals that I set out in the beginning of the year – some I am still working towards and some that may have fallen to the wayside to make room for new things to flourish. A new season, especially Spring is the perfect time to let go of any negative energy holding you back and a time to look forward and give yourself some mental clarity and a fresh start.
The new season has me inspired and I thought of 5 things that I like to do and that help me, when my soul and mind is feeling overwhelmed and ‘heavy’. Now is a better time than any to start fresh, even if it is a small step in the right direction, to something greater!
Take a step back, breath, re-focus and do what makes your soul happy
This is probably one of the biggest and most valuable things I have had to teach myself over the last few years. I often find my mind going a million miles an hour, thinking of everything I need to get done and fixating on things that aren’t exactly the most important at that given moment. Such as, having to clean out my cupboards, because they are a ‘mess’ at 9 o’clock at night – my mind is a weird and wonderful place sometimes! When I feel my mind going into one of these frenzies, I pause, breath, think about what is actually important at that moment. Rather than focusing on ‘the messy cupboard’, I try to focus on something that I have accomplished that day, such as having gone to the gym. It is all about how you choose to deal with things, that really makes all of the difference.
Something very prevalent in this day and age. Not only what you choose to consume in reference as to what you put into your body, but most importantly, for our mental health as well. Choose who you invest your time in and what situations you choose to put your time and energy towards. My best example would be social media – although it can be a wonderful platform at times and it has its perks, it can also be very damaging to the state of our mental well-being. Something I did a few months back and continue to do now, is to unfollow anyone, or pages that I feel don’t contribute positively to my life and wellbeing. This was probably one of the best things I ever did and I urge anyone to do the same, should you be feeling this way.
Stay in your own lane
Similar to the above, STOP COMPARING yourself to everyone else, stay in your own lane, do what makes you happy and do what makes you, YOU. Simple.
Clear and freshen up your surroundings
This is a biggie for me, as my environment easily sets a tone for my mood and how I am feeling. If my space is untidy and cluttered – my brain feels the same way. If I am feeling this way, something as simple as sweeping the floors, or wiping down the counters (I know, I’m weird) genuinely puts me in a better mood and mind frame. Same goes for making sure my cupboards and fridge is stocked with healthy food on a Sunday – it immediately sets good intentions for the week. Even the smallest things can make a difference and ultimately lead to bigger results. Grooming, in terms of face masks, body scrubs etc., also goes a long way in putting you in a better frame of mind.
Give your soul a break
Probably one of the biggest lessons I have had to learn and constantly work towards, is giving myself a break. Let go of unrealistic expectations and do what is ultimately going to be best for your soul and your mental wellbeing. Something as simple as feeling drained and not forcing yourself to do something you don’t want to, your body is obviously telling you something. Run a bath, read a book, make a healthy meal and get into bed early – nothing better!
I hope these tips assist you in a fresh, bright, SPRING in your step into the new season!
